Our Physicians and Providers


	Beth Chapman Hanlon, M.D., FACP Board certified in Internal Medicine Dr. Hanlon was a founding member of Alpine Medical Group, LLC in 1997. She is a graduate of the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and completed residency at the University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals, where she was also Chief Medical Resident. She was recognized in 1990 as University of Utah Outstanding Resident and at the VA Medical Center as Outstanding Humanitarian Resident in 1990. Dr. Hanlon was an attending physician at the University of Utah Hospital and VA Medical Center after residency until 1993, when she joined the medical staff of Holy Cross Hospital. Since then she as been in private practice as a primary care Internal Medicine Specialist. Dr. Hanlon’s special clinical interests include health maintenance issues in adults, especially in patients with diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease.
	Yong Hui Ahn, M.D. Board certified in Internal Medicine Dr. Ahn joined Dr. Hanlon in her private Internal Medicine practice in 1994 and was a founding member of Alpine Medical Group, LLC. She graduated from the University of Kentucky Medical School in Lexington and completed residency in Internal Medicine at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Prior to 1993, Dr. Ahn was on the staff at the Salt Lake Community Health Clinics. She is involved in the Salt Lake Korean-American community and enjoys knowing her patients well, providing them with guidance in health maintenance issues. She is an outdoor enthusiast, loving to hike, bike and ski.
	Heidi Standteiner, M.D. Board certified in Internal Medicine Dr. Standteiner joined Alpine Medical Group in 2006. She attended medical school at the University of Nevada, completing her internship and residency at Legacy Emanuel and Good Samaritan Hospitals in Portland, Oregon. Her undergraduate studies were at the University of Utah where she also competed on the NCAA collegiate ski team. She remains an avid skier and enjoys many outdoor activities. Dr. Standteiner enjoys caring for patients with complex health issues and stresses the importance of preventative care. She takes pride in getting to know her patients and understanding their concerns and offers thorough guidance with all health care issues.
	Wanda Updike, M.D. Board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases Dr. Updike attended medical school at the Medical College of Virginia. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of North Carolina and went on to complete a fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals. Dr. Updike currently practices with Drs. Hanlon and Ahn, specializing in Infectious Diseases, and continues to provide services to Salt Lake Regional Hospital as their hospital epidemiologist. She is also on staff at St. Mark’s hospital and IMC Medical Center, providing consultative services. She enjoys hiking, cooking, and traveling.

Matthew Cobb, PA-C

Matthew Cobb received his physician assistant certificate in 1994 and his Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies in 2005, both from the University of Utah. He spent seven years practicing family medicine for the underserved population in Salt Lake City and five years in private practice specializing in Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine before joining Alpine Medical Group, LLC. He is a clinical associate at the University of Utah Physician Assistant Program.

He received his Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Oklahoma in 1981. He worked in the Intensive Care Unit as a registered nurse for eleven years prior to receiving his certificate in physician assistance. He moved to Utah twenty years ago and continues to enjoy backpacking, biking, and other outdoor recreational activities, as well as theater and travel. His family includes his physician assistant wife and two boys. His favorite quote is “Better is the enemy of Good” -Voltaire.

Kristin K. McElwain, FNP

Kristin McElwain received her Masters as a Nurse Practitioner from the University of Utah after serving as a registered nurse for several years at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center in their emergency room. There she coordinated the triage program for evaluation of chest pain, and also volunteered at the Fourth Street Homeless Clinic.

Kristin received her degrees in both Nursing and Psychology from the University of Utah. She has been with Alpine Medical Group, LLC since 1998. Her special interests include Diabetes Management, coordination of anticoagulant therapy, step care management in asthma, and women’s health. Kristin enjoys outdoor activities, theater, and traveling.
